Governess Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, English, or a related field
- Teaching qualification such as:
- PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- CACHE Level 3
- Montessori qualification
- Early Years Teaching qualification
Additional Requirements
- Enhanced DBS / police clearance certificate
- First Aid certification
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Professional appearance and discretion
- Ability to travel internationally if required
Preferred Experience
- Successfully completed a study from Norland College Bath - UK
- Experience in private households or VIP families
- International school teaching experience
- Homeschooling or private tutoring experience
- Experience with British, American, or IB curriculum
- Experience with children of similar age groups
Highly Valued Skills
- Bilingual abilities (French or Arabic is a bonus)
- Piano, arts, or language teaching skills
- SEN experience
- Nursery or early years expertise

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties of a British Governess
Primarily responsible for a child’s education, development, etiquette and daily routine.
Essential Qualifications
- Teaching English language skills
- Support school curriculum
- Homework assistance and exam preparation
- Reading, Writing and Communication Development
- Planning educational activities and learning schedules
- Encouraging creativity and critical thinking
Child Development & Etiquette
- Teaching manners, confidence and social etiquette
- Encouraging positive behavior and discipline
- Supporting emotional and social development
- Promoting independence and responsibilities
- Organizing educational outings and cultural activities
Daily Routine Management
- Structuring the child’s day
- Coordinating study time, activities and rest
- Preparing educational materials and lesson plans
- Managing school schedules and extracurricular activities
- Assisting during travel with the family
Travel Responsibilities
- Travel internationally with the family
- Support children during holidays and business trips
- Maintain educational continuity while abroad
Household Coordination
The Governess may coordinate with:
- Tutors
- Nannies
- Drivers
- Security teams
- Household managers
- Private school staff
